Hidden Intent Chat With Metal As Fuck

The band is set to destroy the capital tonight!

Adelaide's fast rising heavy metal upstarts Hidden Intent will be hitting the road across ACT and NSW this weekend alongside Desecrator (VIC) who are launching their new album “To The Gallows”. There's been major rumblings in the background for Hidden Intent, with preparations for a new album coming along swiftly. There’s a strong belief among the camp that these new tracks are easily the strongest material to date. The boys have also recently locked down their maiden European voyage coming up in May 2017 alongside US act Lich King. True to the undeniable workhorse ethic of the band, they show no signs of wear and tear while forging themselves as a solid entity on the national touring circuit in recent years. The exciting 3-piece have been honing their throwback thrash craft since 2011, having proven themselves as tried and tested road dogs. Hidden Intent have toured Australia and New Zealand consistently while also trekking through Asia on no less than 4 occasions. So we thought it best to hear it from the horses mouth; we sit down with Chris McEwan of Hidden Intent to get all the juicy details for Metal As Fuck

Can you give us a little background on the band for those playing at home and also some of the highlights the band have seen thus far? "Hidden Intent started in 2011 by myself and Phil Bennett when our original bands died in the ass. I'd seen Phil around at local shows but I properly met him at a Marty Friedman guitar clinic here in Adelaide - I still give him shit for not giving me a lift home that night! [Laughs] Stoogy prick! At the time I was getting into Coroner and noticed how tight and heavy they were for a three piece, so i rang Phil and we discussed the idea of us forming our own band where sing and play bass, he shreds and we get a mad thrash drummer - less egos the better, less texting, more riders... He agreed and since then the band has formed into a three-headed beast. We've done more than we ever thought we would such as sharing the stage with Denamark's Artillery in China, touring South East Asia three times, three Aussie tours, two NZ tours, supporting Helloween and Queensryche in our hometown, touring nationally with Nuclear Assault and of course having Matt fuckin' Young [King Parrot] as our bloody manager! Cheers Youngy".

As for setting band goals what does the band hope to accomplish this year?"This year is our first "toe in the water" in new territory (so to speak) as we're finally heading over to Europe for the first time to play with Lich King. We are also finishing our long-awaited second full length release at snail pace because.. well we're fussy cats. If we haven't beaten each other to death by the end of these accomplishments we've done well in my books!".

And of course reaching goals comes with their challenges, what are you anticipating? "Probably playing new places as we're unsure of what the crowd reception will be like, especially our upcoming regional Aussie tour with Desecrator; some of the places we're playing we've never been to, it's both exciting and stressful to make sure all the shows are a success and we aren't playing to crickets and bar staff! Shows have been promising thus far which is killer. Also our newer material for our new album, we've gone on a slightly different path than our past material. Instead of "Walking Through Hell part 2" we've going for more variation in the songs but still keeping the thrash vibe that people know and love us for. We have a ballad and trippy song in C tuning for fucks sake! Never thought we'd ever go lower than E flat on ANY of our material - it's just not thrash...".
