Soundwave 2014

Soundwave 2014 Melbourne

Another year another Soundwave Festival! despite having a bunch of bands pulling out of the festival for various reasons there was still chaos and fun for one and all with crunching guitars, roaring crowds, and some fantastic bands tearing Melbourne apart.

Alter Bridge & Living Colour, Forum Theatre, Melbourne - 26/2/14

Living Colour cook Melbourne. Alter Bridge simmer along, but that's the Alter Bridge way. Also: dudes.

Dudes really like Alter Bridge. Bulbous dudes of wispy hair. Work-cutting dudes with shirts tucked into slacks. Dudes man, dudes.

Testament, Metreya, Oxford Art Factory, Sydney, 26/02/2014

Testament blew the roof off the Art Factory.

Soundwave is not a metal festival. As much as some wish that this was not the case, most reasonable people know it's true.

Down's Jimmy Bower Down Under

A new EP is coming!!!

Down’s drummer Jimmy Bower and the rest of the band arrived last week in preparation for Soundwave and their Sidewave shows with

Dave Brockie AKA GWAR's Oderus - Backstage at the Brisbane Soundwave

"Fuck it! Bring the sun! I’ll beat the sun. I’ll stab the fucking sun right in the fucking heart and kill it! I’ll bring it down to the fucking plains of Australia – we’ll put it on that big rock you guys have – and we’ll all fuck it!”

As the Australian media attempts to invoke outrage over GWAR's beheading of Tony Abbott (haven't heard much about the debreasting of The Queen yet

Stitch.D on those lovely Americans (and other stuff)

Go on! Bring me some Monster Munch...

Stitch.D has just flown in to chilly England (he’s currently residing in Los Angeles) in order to prepare for the start of The Defiled’s UK tour.

Getting Dirty with Dirty Arya From Skindred

Too much cow-bell is never enough...

‘Dirty’ Arya Goggin is bouncing along on the tour bus, on his way to Germany for the next leg of Skindred’s latest tour.

Biffy Clyro's James Johnston on Accordions and Perspectives on Life

Please, not the accordion...

While waiting for James Johnston to connect, I’m being subjected to quite possibly the worst ‘hold’ muzak that I’ve ever heard; it’s like accordion blues meets 70’s porn.

John Baizley; Resilience Personified

"I don’t want that to be the only thing that people remember…”

I’m not one for painting people as heroes or brave little soldiers but you’ve got to doff your cap to John Baizley (and indeed everyone else involved in last year’s bus crash).
