Deep Purple Legend, Glenn Hughes, Tours Australia in April

In an Australian first, legendary international vocalist/bassist Glenn Hughes will perform in Australia this April.

In an Australian first, legendary international vocalist/bassist Glenn Hughes formerly of Deep Purple III and IV / Black Sabbath 7th Star, Tony Iommi and Gary Moore will perform in Australia in late April 2009 with a five-piece band. This marks his first appearances in Australia with a full electric band line-up since he appeared with Deep Purple in 1975 in the famous Mark IV version (with David Coverdale of Whitesnake fame, Tommy Bolin, Jon Lord and Ian Paice)

The Australian tour set list has been hand-picked by Glenn & will cover Deep Purple fans, classic rock lovers & those who still follow Glenn’s exploits with fervour. It’s slanted towards the classic songs everyone knows + a few surprises from his Hughes/Thrall and the Iommi/Hughes Fused recordings. Basically, it will be a journey through rock history - from then til now.

Glenn’s extraordinary recording career over 40 years has seen him work with the greatest artists of all time. Whilst in Deep Purple he co-wrote and performed on the classic multi-million sellers Burn, Stormbringer and Come Taste The Band albums. 1982 saw the release of the Hughes Thrall album with guitar legend Pat Thrall. His work with Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi on the legendary 1986 ‘Seventh Star’ album is a collector’s item.

Accolades for Glenn’s vocal prowess have been central to his career to date. He’s usually found in the Top 10 lists of the greatest living rock vocalists along with Ian Gillan, Robert Plant and Paul Rodgers. Stevie Wonder considers him “...my favourite white singer... ”.

However Glenn is not just a “legend”, but remains a vibrant and active solo artist having recorded over 15 solo albums since the late 70’s - First Underground Nuclear Kitchen being his spellbinding 2008 release. His recent solo albums feature regular contributors Chad Smith and John Fruisciante (Red Hot Chilli Peppers) and ex-Chili Pepper, Dave Navarro.

He continues to tour the world with recent dates in Europe, Russia, UK and USA. Glenn recently received the "International Artist of the Year" award in March 2008 at the Zebrik Report Music Awards in Plzen, Czech Republic.

On a local level he is a close friend and associate of Aussie rock legend Jimmy Barnes, with Jimmy guesting on his 2006 album ‘Music For the Divine’.
