The ABC unveils new Racket Host

He starts work next week. Here's how the ABC introduced the 'new Haug' to a waiting world...

"After a killer month of guest hosts, we are excited to announce that 24 year old Lochlan Watt from Brisbane will be taking over as the new presenter of triple j’s heavy music show The Racket.

The Racket is Australia’s heavy music institution, bringing hard rock and metal to the Australian masses every week. Continuing in this tradition, while delivering it with his own unique style, Lochlan will have you head banging at 10pm every Tuesday night.

A metal aficionado (thank Christ for that. We thought they'd put a Hipster in - relieved News Ed), Lochlan comes from a media background, working as a journalist for print publications Death Before Dishonour Magazine, Drum Media, Blunt Magazine and No Heroes Magazine, as well as online for Noisetheory.org.

Lochlan currently writes a weekly metal column for Brisbane’s Time Off magazine, and has been since 2008. Among the literally hundreds of musicians Lochlan has interviewed are Mastodon, The Dillinger Escape PlanParkway Drive, Lamb of God, Damaged, Gojira, Napalm Death and Despised Icon.

A musician himself, Lochlan has been in various metal bands as a vocalist/drummer/synth player for Western Decay, The Surrogate and Ironhide, and currently fronts post-hardcore band Nuclear Summer. He’s booked and promoted clubs around Brisbane and has just started his own label Monolith, which releases Australian music of the heavy variety.

HE KNOWS HIS HEAVY STUFF.

Tonight (21 Feb) you can catch the last of a series of guest shows as Scott Kelly from Neurosis and John Baizley from Baroness co-host The Racket. Then tune in as Lochlan begins his reign over The Racket at 10pm on Tuesday 28 February.
