The Weekly Ticket Stub...

It is Norwegian festivals, album launches and saucy emoji's(?) this week... We have Copia, Norse, Ensiferum; basically more metal than you can poke a drum stick at

Iron Maiden's stance against exploitative ticketing is proving a huge success as they champion theur fans with a series of anti-tout initiatives for their UK arena tour listings on secondary sites are down by over 95%!

Iron Maiden's recent and continued efforts to safeguard their fans against touting and counterfeiting ahead of 2017’s The Book Of Souls UK arena tour which starts on May 4th has been hailed a triumph by fans, promoters and legitimate ticketing sites. By implementing an extensive “Paperless Ticketing” policy and ensuring all other available tickets would carry the name of the purchaser and would also require the purchaser’s credit card and ID on entry, amongst other measures, the number of tickets available at inflated prices on the secondary platforms plummeted by over 95% compared with the band’s last UK arena tour in 2011.

By eliminating many of the resale platforms there was nowhere for the so called ticketing “power brokers” and counterfeiters to go to sell, thus largely eliminating touting and keeping tickets on the official box office at the correct pricing, with over 100,000 tickets sold first day all at the intended price.

Ensiferum recently entered the Astia studio in Lappeenranta, Finland, where the band recorded a few demo songs for their upcoming seventh full-length, set to be released September 2017 via Metal Blade Records. The quintet will soon return to the Astia studio to begin recording this new album, which will be produced once again by Anssi Kippo (Children Of Bodom, Impaled Nazarene, Entwine). Sami Hinkka (bass) comments:

"Hi Folks! So, as some of you might have already noticed from our social media channels, we are getting ready to go record the next Ensiferum album pretty soon. Just a few weeks ago, we recorded demo versions with Anssi Kippo, who also recorded and produced 'One Man Army'. The demo session went smoothly, and working with Anssi is always such a pleasure because he is so full of creative ideas and positive attitude. The goal for the new album will be to capture Ensiferum's live energy on the songs, and we also plan to use analog recording as much as possible to guarantee the best possible sound. The song material will include familiar elements, but like we always love to do, we will also take Ensiferum's mighty warship to unexplored seas of musical madness. More info later."

Ensiferum has been flying the flag of epic, folk-infused death metal high and proud for two decades. One Man Army (2015), can be previewed and purchased at: |

Prepare for the northern blitzkrieg! Polish death metal commanders Vader are returning to Finland this May with brothers-in-arms Decapitated, for three nights of merciless onslaught. The titanic force that is Vader will descend upon Finland for their first club gigs since 2008! Having started their career in 1983 – the same year as other death metal pioneers such as Death and Possessed – Vader has been a consistent and influential part of extreme metal history, churning out numerous classics and propagating their message of war with unwavering determination.

Late 2016 saw the crushing release of their 13th full-length “The Empire,” placing them in optimal condition to conquer the Northern territories this May!

Despite being active since 1996 and touring profusely, the legendary Decapitated have somehow managed thus far to elude Finnish soil, but no longer! Straight outta Krosno, Decapitated already started blowing minds with their 2000 debut “Winds of Creation,” which boasted youthful speed and ferocity, and a keen and masterful technical proficiency. Since then, these shredders have taken tech death to a far more personal and innovative place, incorporating groove, inherent melodicism and tormented emotion.

Sydney atmospheric black metal band, Somnium Nox will release their highly anticipated full length debut album, Terra Inanis on May 15. The album consists of three monolithic tracks that weave together to create an otherworldly atmosphere completely representing the album title - Terra (earth) Inanis (empty,) Immense, stark, ambient, isolating and incredibly dense soundtracks.

Incorporating didgeridoo, Somnium Nox move black metal into new and uncharted territory. Taking the listener on an oscillating trip between varying states of consciousness through their music's transcendental qualities. This is atmospheric black metal that is deeper than most. Stirring up emotions that were thought to be non existent and affecting the listener on a cerebral and also subliminal level.

Listening to Terra Inanis causes an emotional purge; a deep soul cleansing via the evocation of sounds from an ancient culture, the natural world and other realms. Catch a glimpse of the album teaser below

The road towards the release of As Paradise Falls' new album has begun with a recent release of their new single "Star Blind". The track features brand new vocalist Shaun Coar (Vessel Born, touring vocals for Feed Her to the Sharks, Bound For Ruin) and is a biting critique on the culture around "celebrities" in the modern era.

The band have clawed their way back from an immense tragedy in that they lost their guitarist Glen Barrie - who passed away in the studio in Thailand while recording the album that Star Blind will be a part of - in 2015. Barrie's guitar takes are left virtually as played on the single and the record as a whole. The stunning video has experienced a huge response online since its release. The video was shot on location at Rainbow Beach at the Sunshine Coast using drone cameras. The clip was created by Third Eye Visuals. The Single Star Blind is available for purchase and streaming now in all good online outlets.

Songwriter and Guitarist for As Paradise Falls, Danny Kenneally, says of the new single, "The song Star Blind is meant to explore the culture of celebrity in western society - in recent years, thanks to the advent of social media, the traditional model of what "famous" is or was has changed by epidemic proportions. The idea of fame hasn't always been seen as such a high goal to so many people. But what was a sometimes blurry line between fame and infamy is now pretty indistinguishable by people who seek validation in a world where it's so hard to find value in themselves. In the current modern digital culture, we need to value substance more than ever"

Add to this, an East Coast tour with Sydney's Trojans and Melbourne's Mirrors; As Paradise Falls have a lot going on for the forseeable future.

Speaking of Norse - the Australian black metal band surpass everything they've done in the past. 'Pest' was a unique slice of harsh, dissonant black metal but their new album is a stunning progression while retaining the band's trademark, futuristic yet exceptionally bleak sound. 'The Divine Light Of A New Sun' is a tour de force of weirdly rhythmic and catchy black metal while remaining true to its original aura.

Virtually peerless, Norse create music that is haunting, incisive and lethal. Albums like these don't come out often. This is the future of black metal, and the future is uncompromising. Stay tuned....
