BerserkerfoX - King Kong On Crack EP (Independent)

This young Melbournian metal group has released a teaser for their upcoming album - a sign of things to come.

It's always interesting to hear some material from up-and-coming artists, so when the opportunity arose to review Melbourne metallers BerserkerfoX's EP King Kong On Crack, I was happy to take on the challenge.

Sporting three cuts from their upcoming yet-to-be-titled LP, King Kong On Crack shows a hungry and ambitious young band trying to put their mark on the ever-growing Australian metal scene.

The three tracks - Flag of Blood has Shadows Fall like riffage and european metal like guitar harmonies, Self Professed Kings is a mid paced Exodus like track with Bay Area metal influence and Veritas draws influence from today's modern metal scene.

One thing that was noticable was the dominance of the instruments in the mix over the vocals, at times it seems like the vocals are pushed to the back and the drums, more specifically the kick drums, are the most dominant in the mix. Another criticism is that the vocals seem to be a bit samey: there is the odd melodic musical passage, but a clean vocal passage added in different places would definitely add another element to the overall performance.

After giving it a few listens, BerserkerfoX are reminiscent of Perth metal legends Pathogen both musically and vocally. That is not a bad thing though, BerserkerfoX's melodic death metal stylings will definitely please many people's ears.

BerserkerfoX seems to be on the right track. With the right amount of exposure, a solid amount of touring and a dedicated record label, this band could become a big name within the Australian metal scene - so my advice is to keep your ears to the ground and your eyes peeled.

BerserkerfoX's King Kong On Crack is available via the band's MySpace - and also via iTunes.
