Kraanium - Post Mortal Coital Fixation (Comatose Music)

Norwegian death metal band kick it old school
Release Date:

There's no need for explanation.  Kraanium are just like that box of cereal - they tell you exactly what your gonna get, upfront. In this case, it's a large dose of bludgeoning death metal. The guitars are syrupy thick, the drumming like a rapid firing machine gun, and vocals that sound like they have escaped from a cement mixer.

Song titles like Stillborn Neurotic Fuck Feast, Crack Whore Pounding and Slurping the Vaginal Pus are sure to get the feminists, and other social commentators, off side, but then again, we're sure that the songs off Post Mortal Coital Fixation are not meant to be listened to with an entirely straight face. Having said that, it does all come across as a bit trite, especially considering that the whole 'gore' thing, has been done to death now - pardon the bad pun.  Yes, it might have been controversial when Cannibal Corpse did it back in 1989, or whenever it was, but twenty odd years on, it just lacks lustre.  That the band seems to be playing it so straight, kind of makes it sadder. Of course, there's more to death metal than lyrical content, and if it's old fashioned death metal that you crave, then Kraanium have a very big spoonfull to serve you.

We've mentioned that the vocals are guttural, and indeed, are probably enough to scare your elderly grandma.  And though you might not understand exactly what Martin Funderu is on about, the song titles, such as those mentioned above, are sure to give a hint, so no translating is needed. Both the guitars and the drums are very 'low end', but this also just gives PMCF that old school vibe. While we could easily question why a band like Kraanium would want to regurgitate something that was popular more than two decades ago, we are sure that there are many old school death metal fans around that will lap this album up. Personally though guys, we've kind of moved on.
