Strong Intention - Razorblade Express (PATAC Records)

No frills, no fuss, just chaos.

Strong Intention is a band that flits between all areas of the bloody heavy spectrum and Razorblade Expres, the latest offering from the Maryland trio, is a shitstorm of grinding hardcore menace.

At six songs in length, yet still clocking it at well under ten minutes, there is nothing subtle here. The title track and obscurely titled 3rd Space Gorilla Generator both feature Eyehategod front man Mike XI Williams and have a gutteral grindcore vibe, whereas vocalist Zac's delivery is much more on the hardcore end of the spectrum. It's surprising and impressive that Strong Intention manage to vary their sound so much in such a short space of time; fans of Napalm Death and Sick of it All will find something to enjoy on Razorblade Express.

Williams' contribution means that a couple of the songs could be straight from an Arson Anthem album but this is no bad thing. Messiah Whore and Rat Factory exude a snarling punk attitude, and closing track Slaughter Intelligence finishes with all the subtle nuances of a steel-toed boot to the kidneys. However you want to categorise Strong Intention there is no getting away from the impact of the music. Genre-splitting carnage at it's finest.
