Horror punk for punky horror fans...

Ex Texas Drag Queen Massacre front-man Al B Damned is back from the dead with his second album For Old Times Stake with more horror based puns than you can stake a schtick at. After 2010's The Darker Side Of Me, it seemed like Al might crumble away like a vampire in the dawning sun but after a successful Kickstarter campaign, he's back with Pip Sickness (who is, bizarrely, also in mentalists aAnd?) and it's spooky bat-madness-a-go-go...

If you dig that whole horror punk/shock and roll vibe that other cats such as Manson, Alice Cooper and Wednesday 13 also punt out then you'll probably get quite into this album - and why wouldn't you; it's catchy, reasonably heavy (in a rock 'n' roll kind of way) and tongues are firmly embedded in the cheek throughout the album. It's probably not quite as dark and serious as something that Manson would put out, and Mr Cooper has more than a passing influence on here, but you only have to have a quick sniff of first single Look Who's Stalking to become caught up in the catchy vibes that abound on here. It's schlock rock as opposed to cock rock and it's quite fun, providing you're willing not to take it too seriously. Al sings about demons and zombies and brain-eating and all manner of other ghostly happenings, there are synths and howling guitars and spoken word bits that punctuate the tunes - and today I'm enjoying it all in an uncomplicated, straight up kind of way. I might hate the album tomorrow but today, for me, it's quite an enjoyable distraction.
