Fuzzed out and drugged up seem appropriate words for the boys from Black Pussy who have dropped another slab of psyche-fueled acid rock for our edification
Release Date:

So the story goes the Rolling Stones wrote a song called Black Pussy, the record label didn't like it so they changed the name to Brown Sugar and left this bunch of reprobates to appropriate the name for their band. On this, the bands second full release, we get a slab of whacked out spacy psychedelic stoner rock goodness. Having worked with Adam Pike (Red Fang, Norska, Black Elk) and Brant Bjork (Kyuss, legend!) on Magic Mustache, Black Pussy have delivered what they set out to do, they've ticked all the weird and wonderful boxes they wanted to.

Black Pussy deliver that Monster Magnet kind of washed out pscyh stoner on Magic Mustache. The bass of Aaron Poplin bubbles along underneath it all providing plenty of highlights and the sort of grooves the Low Desert Punk Band revel in. Main man Dustin Hill, and he basically did a Grohl with the first Black Pussy album so truly is the main man, likes to settle into a kind of psych drone when singing while he and Ryan Mcintire play off each other wonderfully well with their strange, fuzzed out riffs. The hits of keyboards you get from Keith 'Chief' O'Dell throughout bring that Doors vibe to life and Dean Carroll pulls the whole thing together with his driving rhythms.

Listening to Black Pussy is like riding the gravitron on LSD and drunk on whiskey, you're going to have a great time but it's likely you'll end up splattering the wall with technicolour yawn, but then you'll wipe your face and, grinning ear to ear, do it all again. Some of this reminds me a little of what Australia's Black Cab did on the Altamont Diary, as there's a sense of the hippy movement buried in some of these tunes (Butterfly should have the word cosmic in its title!). This is acid stoner at its finest, there's hints of Blue Cheer, Hendrix, Hawkwind, Iron Butterfly and their ilk mixed in with that desert stoner thing. If any of that tickles your fancy then be sure to give Magic Mustache a listen.
