Steelfest Open Air 2014 launched with a barrage of black, thrash and death metal in Hyvinkää, Finland. Kicking the summer festival season awake and pouring the first glugs of cheap Finnish beer down it's throat, Steelfest showcases local and international acts heavy on the leather and spikes. Day One was headlined by Inquisition (USA), Deströyer 666 (AUS/NED) and Nifelheim (SWE)
Steelfest Open Air 2014 dragged it's hungover crowd out of bed for a second day of black, thrash and death metal in Hyvinkää, Finland. With coffee and Jaloviina, Steelfest woke the summer festival season and hauled it kicking and screaming back into the mosh pit for another year. Day Two was headlined by Primordial (IRL), Vader (POL) and Necrophobic (SWE)
Battling a dreary spring day, we took out the telephoto lens to the massive beach stage for Sonisphere Finland 2014 to capture Mastodon, Ghost and Gojira in action.
Impaled Nazarene are credited as one of the pioneers of the Finnish Black Metal scene, and have never been far from controversy in their 24 years as a band. Last Saturday they brought their merciless black metal, with that contagious hint of grinding punk, to the PRKL club in Helsinki. Opening for them was the blackened death/thrash assault of fellow Finns, Ominous.

If you’re in the need for some old-school styled thrash with shredding solos, solid drum fills and a clean production, I’ve probably got just what you need here.
Helsinki raised its drinking horns and pumped its fists to a rousing night of folk, battle and symphonic power metal on Easter Sunday. Long time friends Ensiferum and Turisas joined forces with locals Thaurorod to deliver a night of tribute to swords, beer, historical battles, fantastical journeys and leather skirts... erm.. kilts.
